Isn’t it weird to sell 49% of something you don’t own, without asking the rightful owners? We think so too, but that’s what Bill 40 allows the government to do. By changing the definition of privatization to suit its privatization agenda, it would kind of be like a used car salesperson roping off a random parking lot and bolding declaring: “I’m not necessarily saying these cars are for sale, but I am definitely taking offers!”
Saskatchewan Public Interest Theatre Company hosted a guerrilla theatre production highlighting the absurdity of Bill 40 – which will allow the government to sell 49% of any Crown without holding a referendum or asking Saskatchewan people.
The theatre intervention happened in the MLA parking lot in front of the provincial legislative building on April 25, 2017. Salesperson David Gray Donald auctioned off the MLAs’ vehicles to a crowd of eager buyers, highlighting the absurdity of Bill 40.
